The route follows the red markings of Kom-Emine (part of the European E3 trail). Starting east from Lakatnik railway station, the trail quickly leaves the main road and climbs past meadows with continuous views of the Lakatnik Rocks.
After crossing the road several times through oak groves, the path joins the asphalt road (40 mins from start). It passes a water fountain, a covered picnic area, and a stone cross shrine ("Balinov Grob") before reaching Lakatnik village center in about 1:15 hours.
From the village square, follow signs southeast toward Trastenaya Hut. The trail briefly follows a winding dirt road, then shortcuts through an old orchard and beech forest. It emerges at a large meadow featuring a shelter with picnic tables and a fountain (40–45 mins from the village, 2 hours from the station).
After the shelter, turn right onto a new dirt track. The route climbs gently across pastures and through an old-growth beech forest, ending at Trastenaya Hut, famous for its raspberry plantations and the St. Pantaleon shrine nestled beneath ancient beeches.
Timing: Approx. 2:30 hours uphill from the station, and under 2:00 hours on the way back down.
