The route begins at the Zhitolyub spring restaurant. A 10-minute climb leads to the Temnata Dupka cave gazebo (entry prohibited to protect fragile endemic species). Another 10 minutes brings you to Alpine Meadow, with a short detour to a lookout above the iconic Eagle’s Nest shelter.
About 30 minutes from the start, the trail splits:
Left (marked): Direct path to the Monument of the Septemvriysi (25–30 min).
Right (steeper, unmarked): Passes Razhishta Cave (accessible, but closed Dec–March for hibernating bats). Reaches the monument in 15–20 minutes.
The Monument of the Septemvriysi offers great views over the Iskar Gorge. Behind it, an asphalt road leads through the Razhishta hamlet, climbing to the ridge before crossing meadows with views of the Vratsa Balkan.
In the center of Razhishta (water fountain and shop available), the road begins to descend. Shortly before a sharp right turn, take the blue-marked forest path on the left, which reaches the center of Milanovo in 15 minutes.
Practical tip: Pure walking time is around 2 hours, but allow at least 2:30 hours to enjoy the many panoramic viewpoints along the way.
